Join BEC Wisconsin and GAF for a half-day workshop on roof design and specifications in the Great Hall.
Successful roof design requires a comprehensive understanding not only of the materials themselves, but how they come together on a project. This half-day workshop delves into the details of roof design and specifications. Following a brief overview of the roof components, we will explore critical details such as the roof-to-wall interface and roof penetrations.
We learn by doing: in addition to discussing best practices, this workshop incorporates interactive activities including analyzing shop drawings and specifications to identify best practices and pitfalls. Attendees will also learn specific language for specifications concerning tapered design and quality control.
Throughout the workshop, hands-on activities will enable attendees the opportunity to observe penetration detail installation to ensure air and water tightness, conduct quality control on single-ply roof systems and formulate pertinent questions for their own site visits.
Andrea Wagner Watts is the Building Science Education Manager for GAF, engaging with industry professionals to provide guidance, technical support and education for roof and wall assemblies.
With more than 15 years of experience in the industry, Watts strives to improve the overall performance of the building enclosures through application innovation, product development and building science research. Watts has published on building science, assembly interfaces, durability and resilience and holds multiple patents. She serves as an executive board member with ABAA, is the co-chair of its Technical Committee, and chairs task groups in ASTM E06 and D08 on air barriers in walls and roofs.
